Nervines directly support the nervous system, helping to ease tension, anxiety, and restlessness. These herbs help restore balance and bring tone back into an over-sensitive and exhausted nervous system.

Some effective nervines include:

  • Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis) – A gentle, uplifting herb known for reducing anxiety, promoting sleep, and easing digestive upsets linked to stress.

  • Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) – Helps with nervous tension, insomnia, and racing thoughts, making it a great nighttime ally.

  • Herbal Teas – Make herbal teas with 1 or multiple herbs. I like to encourage my clients to make up 2-3 cups of a herbal tea at a time and drink throughout the day. They can be enjoyed hot or cold.

  • Tinctures – Whether you make your own or receive a customer liquid herbal blend from a herbalist, tinctures can be a quick and easy way to get herbs into the body.

  • Capsules & Tablets – There are many herbal supplements available nowadays, making it easy to consume a therapeutic dose. Please do thorough research or get 1:1 advice before buying herbal capsules or tablets, as the quality of the herbs and integrity of the manufacturing company will highly determine the results you see.

  • Powders - depending on the taste of the powder, it will depend on what you can mix it into. One of my favourite things to do is to add in medicinal mushroom powders to a hot cacao.

  • Infusions and Decoctions – Longer steeping methods for roots and barks provide deeper nourishment through their high mineral and nutrient content.
